About Our Studies
We are looking for participants 5 to 12 years of age. Our research examines the social and cognitive development of children around the world. To do this, we conduct one-on-one Zoom interviews with children that last approximately 10 minutes long. As their parent, you are welcome to watch in the background, we just ask that you refrain from answering any of the questions. We will read your child short stories about different characters and ask what they think about them — for example, to guess what kinds of toys the characters like based on how they choose from a toy box. We remind your child that there are no right or wrong answers, we’re just interested in learning about how children think!
How to Participate
After signing up through the link above, a UC San Diego student researcher will contact you to set up an online appointment. All you need is a computer with Zoom downloaded and ready to be used! At the beginning of the session, you’ll sign an online parent permission form (a requirement from UC San Diego’s research board). Then, we’ll do the short story game with your child (~10 minutes or less). At the end of the session, you’ll be asked to fill out a brief demographic questionnaire.
Can I see an example study?
Yes! Click here to see an example story that we would read to your child. Please make sure not to share it with your child, so that we can get their answers without prior experience.
